Juliette Ravel, Textile Designer
Creating Unique & Naturally Dyed Textiles
About
Portrait by: Rebecca Genet
Juliette Ravel Roychowdhury is a French textile designer based in Goa, India.
She graduated in 2012 from ENSAD Paris with a textile and material Master Degree and was an exchange student of NID Ahmedabad in 2010-11.
After working several years for International-Indian manufacturers in home furnishing fabrics, she created her own design studio. There, she uses only natural dyes. She chose natural dyes over synthetic dyes because they are readily available and they don’t contribute to the massive pollution of the textile industry. Instead, many of them carry medicinal properties.
Juliette is always amazed by natural colours, especially by the blue shades of indigo. She is also passionate by the textile surface design techniques and their endless possibilities (natural resist pastes, natural dye paints, mordant paints etc).
Over the years she has spent a significant amount of time learning the craft from the natural dyers of India and the world. She has developed strong connections in this field and gained experience with the natural dyeing techniques.
Today, she shares her time between teaching in design schools and universities, creating one of a kind fabrics in her studio and ethical textile sourcing for European brands.
Enriched of her decade experience in India she can assist you in the following:
